Contact databases - a practical guide to planning, developing, purchasing and making them work for you

Tuesday 16 May 2006: central London

Workshops

This is a provisional list of workshops. It may be subject to change before the event.

There are three broad strands, but people do not have to go to the same strand morning and afternoon. We are not asking people to choose in advance. The allocation of workshop leaders may change slightly as things get finalised.

Strand A is aimed particularly at people who are just starting to consider getting a database and want to know their options.

Strand B is aimed particularly at people who are in the planning stages of a project and want help with the practicalities.

Strand C is aimed particularly at people who are well into a project, or who support those working on database projects.

Strand A

Morning: Choosing the right option at the right cost
From £500 to £50,000: where should you pitch your budget, what do you get for the money, and how do you obtain the finished product?

Workshop leaders: Paul Ticher & Massimo Gianuzzi

Afternoon: Taking account of the wider voluntary sector
Working with other organisations, either in a formal consortium or just by making use of standards, existing software and existing projects. What the issues are and how to tap into what else is going on.

Strand B

Morning: Drawing up a project specification
What needs to be in it, and how to make sure you end up with what you want.

Workshop leaders: Kate Mansell & Sarah Chadwick

Afternoon: Selecting a supplier and negotiating a contract
The tender process, plus what should be in a contract and how to make sure it is fair all round.

Workshop leaders: Iain Pritchard & Sue Fidler

Strand C

Morning: Project management
What you can do at your end to make sure that the project comes in on time and on budget.

Workshop leaders: Richard Collings & Sue Fidler
